Fish and Wildlife Service Opens Comments for SpaceX Road

Texas testing facility looking to widen and upgrade access.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has opened public comments for new construction at the SpaceX Testing Facility in Cameron County, Texas. The company is looking to widen the one-mile road connecting Boca Chica Boulevard to their facilities along the Rio Grande River to 60 feet wide. They would also install utility lines and fiber optic cables underneath the road.

“No impacts to sensitive fish and wildlife habitats will occur because of the proposed uses,” the Fish and Wildlife Service stated.

A draft of the company’s Compatibility Determination is available for public viewing, outlining how SpaceX anticipates construction will interact with protected species and habitats. Even though the service does not anticipate any negative impacts on the local ecosystem due to the construction, “A Compatibility Determination is nonetheless required when considering such uses,” the service explained.
